While I plan on sampling a few new shows, there are several oldies but goodies that I am going to watch. Here are some thoughts on returning shows that are more than a couple years old (and some may, in fact, be near the end):
Survivor: Yes, I still watch it, 12 years after it debuted -- and I still think it is relevant. Some seasons have been clunkers, some have been gems. A lot depends on the mix of contestants, but the locations and adjustments to game play are factors as well. This season has two celebrities (a former NL MVP and a former star of Facts of Life) and three returning players, so it should be interesting.
Supernatural: This is a show that may be on its last season. It certainly could have ended after season 5 (what an ending that would have been!) but season 6 was surprisingly good. Last season was very uneven, so I am hoping the show can get a little juice back this year. The season-ending cliffhanger was strong, so I am optimistic that the momentum will carry over. Still, I think it may be time for the Winchesters to retire.
The Office: Another show that is at the end of its rope. It is hemorrhaging stars and last year was a creative lowpoint. Still, the show will be in good hands with a new/old showrunner, and I am hoping it'll woo back a bunch of old cast members for a grand sendoff. Still funny at times, this is the only comedy I regularly watch.
Fringe: Here is a good news/bad news situation if there ever was one. I was so excited to hear that the show would be back... but sad to know it's the final season. Like Supernatural, this is a program that got better after it found its footing, and season 4 -- though not as consistently strong as season 3 -- was quite good. I am very curious as to the direction we'll see this year, and I anticipate lots of surprises (and perhaps some tears).
Next time: returning new(ish) shows, some of which are on the bubble!

I gave up on The Office in about season six, but I’m planning to watch the final season just for nostalgia’s sake. One of my Dish co-workers has watched it religiously from day one and she told me it is a shell of its former self, but I just have to see what happens in the end. I work late so I’m glad I can count on my Hopper to record it for me to enjoy as soon as I get home. I hope you’re right about it getting a grand send-off with a bunch of the show’s all-stars coming back. After such a long run, I think anything less would be a pretty big disappointment.
Agreed. It got weaker and weaker season after season, and the Michael Scott exit and replacement almost made me drop it. I've already heard about one old character coming back, so I am hoping we see more. I guess the big story is whether or not Carrell will come back.
