I know my New York COMIC Con posts have been pretty well focused on other media, so I think it's about time I turned my attention to my favorite medium: comics.
One of the best panels I attended was "Dark Horse: We Do Vampires Right." Hosted by Dark Horse editor Scott Allie, the panel featured writers and artists on several Dark Horse supernatural titles, including the Angel and Faith series (Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs).
Writer Christos Gage discussed his plans for that series, including which characters from the Angel series might be coming back, how the continuity from the IDW run of Angel: After the Fall will be incorporated into the new series, and how he mainlined Buffy and Angel in a short period of time, as he had never seen either show before getting the writing gig!
The panel featured information on other current and upcoming Dark Horse titles that fit squarely into the supernatural. This is one of the strengths of their line: licensed comics. They have projects in the hopper that deal with Guillermo del Toro's strain and adaptations of young adult supernatural works. They also have old standbys like Hellboy and BPRD in their stable, so they do supernatural right.
As a writer of supernatural fiction, this encourages me. I later attended a panel with Scott Allie about breaking into comics, and I hope to send along copy of Misty Johnson, Supernatural Dick to Mr. Allie. I've always thought it would make a great comic, so you never know...
More on comics (strips and breaking in) tomorrow!
